Identix SAM series is a family of advanced multiregional RAIN RFID SOMs (System on a Module) that incorporates Bluetooth Low Energy - BLE, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity inside the same package.

Identix SAM is available in three different options, with distinct levels of performance depending on your requirements:

SAM development board

** RPi not included

  • SAM300  +300 tags/s read rate and -75dBm (max) RX sensitivity

  • SAM500 +700 tags/s read rate and -82dBm (max) RX sensitivity

  • SAM700 +1000 tags/s read rate and -86dBm (max) RX sensitivity

With a small compact form factor (32mmx36mm), high output RFID power, four RF antenna ports and a wide variety of connectivity options the Identix SAM modules are the ideal choice for easy embedding in devices which required RAIN RFID connectivity including: reading stations, smart shelves, cabinets, smart refrigerators, RFID fixed readers and battery powered devices such as high performances mobile handhelds and sleds.

Identix SAM uses newest Ex10 RAIN RFID family of reader IC chips from Impinj which offers best in class performance with RFID reading speeds up to 1100 tags/s and sensitivity up to -86dBm (SAM700) with low power consumption. Identix SAM RFID multiregional capabilities make it the ideal integration choice for devices which requires compliance to different geographical regions, reducing development, manufacturing, certifications, and integration costs for OEMs.

With programmable RFID output power from 0dBm to +31.5dBm, SAM RFID modules reaches top reading performances being able to read tags from distances over 15m depending on the antenna and the tag used.

Identix SAM modules features an embedded high-performance dual-core 32-bit microcontroller (EspressIf ESP32-S3) along with a large amount of memory, allowing solutions developers to easily white their custom embedded application firmware without even requiring and external host processor. Optionally the embedded MCU can be bypassed/disabled for direct access to the Impinj chip or used together with and external host.

SAM embedded MCU development options

on first firmware release

  • ESP-IDF - native ESP SDK (RTOS) Development Framework from Espressif Systems

on future firmware releases

  • NuttX - is a real-time operating system (RTOS) with an emphasis on standards (POSIX and ANSI) compliance and small footprint

  • Zephyr Zephyr is a small real-time operating system (RTOS) for connected, resource-constrained and embedded devices supporting multiple architectures

  • MicroPython - Python for microcontrollers

  • MongooseOS - It is designed to reduce the time and costs associated with IoT projects

  • Arduino IDE
